We're Home

Back online...Back at Diaryland

Well, here I am...writing from Congdon Avenue, Elgin, Illinois. My new home. We love it. Even my husband loves it...this surprises me.

Actually Mike has been reborn. He is full of excitement. He still sleeps late for most peoples taste...but late is now 10:00AM and not 2:00PM...quite an improvement. I don't mind that as when I get home he pretty much does most of the work.

The closing went well....about one hour...no hitches..no sticky wickets.

The move went well...exhausting...but went very well. Mother Nature smiled on us. The heat and humidity wave ended just long enough for us to move in beautiful 75 degree weather. Monday, when we were safely inside and under roof...some much needed rain watered our lawn.

The only problem we ran into was with the phone company. Between the phone company and the former owners...problems arose and we still don't have a phone. We will not have a phone til at least Tuesday. The former home owner was unable to get the phone company to disconnect his service, so he unwired the house....left the phone wires in a nest of tangles, undecipherable to an untrained eye. It will cost about 300.00 to have it fixed.

My opinion of this Asshole has now changed.

SBC has also run us around..they seem to only care if their people are polite...not if they can actually help you and get you up and running.

Cable guy (comcast) also didn't show when expected. In the meantime we found that Elgin has two Cable companies. The other one offers expanded basic cable service, broadband internet and phone service bundled together (with unlimited nationwide calling) for 89.99 per month. A savings of about 35.00 per month for us on top of getting the free long distance and more cable channels.

Comcast took a week from making the appointment to filling the order, then didn't show up until the day after the appointment. SBC takes 1 1/2 weeks to come out and and fix infrastructure problems and yet this new, tiny cable company filled our order in 2 days. We now have TV and internet. They will switch over our phone as soon as SBC wires us up again.

Also, as good of a shape this house was left in, I must say that they left the yard a mess. It looked so pretty the day we looked at the house....I don't know what happend....now it is an overgrown jungle with leaves from years worth of Autumns piled up everywhere....and a pile of rotting debris in the back yard which the neighbors also have to look at.

We are not used to stairs. We are now up and down them about 10 or 15 times per day. Our knees ache. Yesterdays gardening session on top of the stair climb have me about crippled.

We will get used to it....this will be good for us.

On the agenda for today?????....More unpacking and a Home Depot Delivery...a new barbeque grill, a new patio set and a new lawn mower....LIFE IS GOOD!!!

Well...gotta run

It's good to be back!
