Well after spending the entire morning...once again...on the real estate site, I have decided that East or West Dundee or the City of Elgin will have to be my focus for a house. Both are towns with a lot of history and old beautiful homes. West Dundee is almost fancy schmancy Below is a beautiful house in West Dundee for sale at a real low price...wonder what is wrong with it. > Below is a small ranch with a basement in a pretty neighborhood in East Dundee. The neighborhood is adorable and the houses their go pretty cheap...wonder what is wrong with it? Below is a home in Elgin, in a good area and it is about 9 thousand more than our limit...but it is adorable...large...in a good area and in perfect shape.
Below is a representative Sample of what is available in Elgin for under 200,000.00. Some as low as 150,000.00. What might be wrong with them????? A changing neighborhood. What they call "The Historic District". What does that mean??? It means an area of absolutely gorgeous homes gone to pot.....Brave rehabbers have started buying these homes and lovingly restoring them. Elgin has cash incentives and volunteer help for doing so. Some are already restored..like the ones below....What is wrong??? Well..you might have a neighbor on one side who is a yuppie restorerer....the other side might be a crack house. Even on streets where it is 90 percent rehabbed and filled with nice neighbors, the street in the back of you might be filled with crack houses. It is not odd to hear a gun shot go off in some parts of the Historic Distrcit. However...some of the houses below are in nice neighborhoods...ya just gotta know which is which. In yesterdays post, I remarked about a neighborhood that was perfect except for a prison...well...same deal in parts of Elgin, only the prisoners run wild in Elgin. Still...it is a charming city with alot to offer. There is quite a bit of diversity, color and blended cultures. Something that adds to the citys charm. There are very very wealthy areas and dirt poor areas...then again...aren't most cities like that? Getting Mike to move here will be hard...then again, there are homes here I can afford on my own and if he don't like it he can take his chances in the working world. Let me know what you think.
